The second half of the brightly-coloured future noir world that has obsessively embraced privacy, and the difficulties of being a PI in a society where everyone wears masks. Our heroes' quest for a killer has lead him to a conspiracy to bring back, of all things, Internet. Murder and mayhem and pointed commentary on whether a hyper-private or a hyper-public world will end up making everybody more self-obsessed and generally useless. Fabulous art, sharp writing, and a brilliant climax. Good show more stuff. show less
4.5* DRC from NetGalley, all opinions are my own.

When you download a DRC and then accidentally read half of it at work. Man, I inhaled this. So fast that I think I will have to buy the hard copy and give it a re-read ;-) I really love Vaughan's writing and when he joins up with a talented artist it's pure gold. The writing, the plot, the art, was ALL spot on for me. The only thing holding me back from a 5* rating is that I really wanted to know more about this world...we got to know a little show more about why it was the way it was but I closed the book feeling I needed just a little more. That said- I still loved it and would absolutely read it again. show less
Holy crap. I've been on a bit of a graphic novel kick lately, and each one I read kept getting better and better. Saga #6-good. Chilling Tales of Sabrina #1-pretty great. Private Eye-EVEN BETTER. Oh man, I LOVE Private Eye. The artwork, the characters, the world building, the commentary, it all just felt spot on. It's definitely Vaughan'd best work, including all the Saga books. I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I do. I was expecting just another dystopian world. And, well, it show more is dystopian. But it's so much more. It's a noir, it's a satire, it's funny, horrifying, and sad, sometimes within panels of each other. Library records become the most protected information in the world. I ended up falling hard for this book, and am glad it was published in a print format, because the eBook version really doesn't do the artwork justice. Anyone looking for a dystopian, futuristic noir that eerily could be our future, if the Cloud ever bursts, should definitely check out "Private Eye." show less
I have enjoyed Brian Vaughan’s stories and this is up there as one of his best. The artwork is intense and makes the story even better. In a future world, where the ‘cloud’ has burst releasing everyone’s private information, that everyone now goes out in public in hidden identities. The Internet is no more and one wants to get information on someone, they hire a PI. The Private Eye in the title is unlicensed and works on the sly. When hired by the sister of a former client, he gets show more involved in a case that is so big, that someone is willing to kill him to keep it a secret. A fast paced graphic novel didn’t feel like the 300 pages. Great characters, great writing and great artwork. Definitely a must read for those who enjoy futuristic science fiction graphic novels and those who think the cloud is all so important. ;) show less
