After being sent to live with relatives, not only does Priscilla have to deal with fitting it at a new school, she has to deal with the fact that her new family members are vampires and almost everyone around her is some other fantasy creature. This “manga” by an American artist and author tries to combine a dark, gothic theme with a cute art style. The only place this succeeds is in the “boogie monster” pet of Priscilla (like a cat with extra tails), that is quite adorable. show more Otherwise it falls flat, and seems to have too much black, and faces that are too angular. The story of trying to fit in revolves mostly around food, as it seems all the food in Nactwald is still living or blood based. Priscilla's cousin Kitten is also not happy to have her around, and does some pretty mean things, which leads to Priscilla almost leaving. The diary entries and chat transcripts at the end of the chapters give insights into what Priscilla is thinking, but break up the flow of the comic. Those wanting an entry-level “dark” experience may enjoy this, but it rings too false for much else. show less
An almost sickeningly cute faux Manga about an orphaned girl who has to go live with her vampire relatives. A little bit too obvious and touchy-feely for my tastes, but a nice heartwarming story with a touch of the strange perfect for younger readers.
The art and the story were both wonderful. Melancholy and fantastical and compelling.
