1447 Murder at Harvard, by Helen Thomson (read 16 Apr 1977) This is a rather facile account of the murder on Nov. 23, 1849, of Dr. George Parkman (uncle of Francis Parkman) by Dr. John Webster, professor at Harvard Medical School. He cut the body up and burned some parts and threw the rest down his privy, except for the torso, which was too big to be thrown down there. Boston in 1840 was a small world and many famous people flit thru the pages of the book: Henry W. Longfellow, Herman show more Melville, Charles Sumner, Edward Everett, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., etc. Quite an interesting book, even though in a true crime book I object to the author telling what somebody thought. show less
