This book has a little bit of a rocky start, but once it gets going it really gets going in. The beginning makes it seem like it is just another wizard adventure story with DND qualities, but the author brings in new elements that make the world seem to expand on common themes while keeping fresh and new. The second half of the book is when things start to happen that actually seem to matter. I became more invested and connected with the characters. Even though the book is part of a series, show more it has an actual ending but also leaves it open to keep the story going.

While the storyline is good. The one limitation is the writing. At times it can seem simple, creating times that were possibly meant to be funny or epic, seem more corny. The writing does improve as the story goes on though, making it less and less a problem. Even still, it never took away from the overall enjoyment of the book. show less
