This was well-researched, with a heavy addition of the author's personal experiences, combining to make a helpful introductory tome for any who wish to work with this little-known goddess. I was absolutely fascinated with the history section, and how much has been gleaned by way of archaeology and what remains from the Romans in writing. It's clear Patterson has put a lot of work into researching, condensing the information, and making it easy for the lay reader (like myself) to absorb and show more understand. The ways to connect with Sulis, her correspondences, and meditations were very helpful. I love the vivid imagery the meditations invoke, it feels like stepping through a real portal. And I'll definitely be adding the recipes to my list of things to try! Of course, there's an extensive bibliography, should you want to do your own further research! show less
I have to admit, I've done a lot of exploring as I travel my pagan path, and I hadn't really given much thought to incorporating dragons into it. This book is a great starting point for anyone looking to start, or those, who like me, are simply curious. Where do I start - I've learned so much! There are so many different kinds of dragons, and I learned about some from stories, myths, and folklore that I wasn't aware of before. I loved getting to read Patterson's personal story woven in with show more everything, it really helped put everything in perspective as I went through the book from cover to cover. Now that I think about it, I've used dragon's blood ink, but never thought too much about the draconic connection there. The final section is about dragons, magic, and working with them, including crystals, meditations, and more. I highly recommend this, even if you're fairly experienced, it's a great reference book, and gives you an extensive bibliography should you want to dive deeper. show less
I am not a kitchen witch (at least I don't consider myself one), but I've always been fascinated with kitchen witchcraft. This is a great reference, and inspired me to add a little magic into my kitchen workings. What I LOVED though is this book doesn't just focus on the good - it also covers the darker side of magic (with a warning of course). Honestly that's what tipped this book into the five-star category for me. I appreciate when authors don't just go the 'love and light' only course.
This is an amazing resource. If you're looking to learn more about the deities from this part of the world or looking to deepen your connection, you'll find this to be incredibly helpful. I greatly appreciated the opening section - where Patterson breaks down The British Isles, the countries they contain, the history of the Isles, and other various histories involving the people living there in ancient times. We then move on to the gods/goddesses, organized alphabetically. Some have longer show more entries than others, but Patterson does admit there was less information to be found on some than others, so this wasn't a big surprise. I did learn about deities I'd never heard of and learned some new things about ones I was already familiar with. I think my favorite section was "Meet the Deities" where Patterson shares some of her rituals/meditations/symbols/recipes for a few of the deities. I'll be trying some of the recipes, and I love the idea of connecting to a god/goddess through more than just ritual and meditation but through food too. Cannot recommend enough! show less
