The Scandinavian countries demonstrate the most extreme adaptions of the European military technology to cold weather and maritime conditions. There are the usual plates, and the standard examples of fortifications. A good book in the series, and an addition to any library the features the "Heimskringla".

This is volume two covering 1300 - 1500 CE. The trend of the Scandinavian powers to arm themselves about a generation behind the European norms, is well illustrated in this volume. There are only a couple of pages about fortification, and while there are photographs, of edifices, there are no plans. The McBride Illustrations are as competent as ever, and there is nothing about ships in this volume.
