Short biography
L. Moone is a Contemporary Romance author based in rainy England. Addicted to caffeine, chocolate and impure thoughts, she loves to write steamy romances featuring husky men, curvy heroines and everything in between. In her world, the men are cinnamon roll sweet and the women are fierce and fabulous. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. And the only path toward happiness is the one travelled together.

*** Sweet Heroes, Sexy Books ***

Cinnamon roll heroes are a huge part of my brand, so are independent heroines. But just because the leading men in my books are sweet, doesn't mean the books are tame. Expect some drama, a sprinkling of challenging themes, as well as plenty of smexy times along the way, but the rollercoaster always leads to a heartfelt happily ever after!

By the way, I also write Paranormal and Fantasy Romance as Lorelei Moone.

I was in two minds requesting this - I don't always love fake relationship trope, but positive representation of larger men as romance heroes doesn't come along all that often. I'm so glad I did - Chris and Violet's meet-cute is cheesy and cute, but also grounded in realism (a train journey I take relatively frequently - I was about two days off from reading it *on* that train), the set up for the fake-dating made emotional sense for the characters, the sex was hot, and the evolution of real show more feelings between the characters absolutely took me with them. The majority of the book is focused very tightly on the events that put them both on that train up to Scotland, and in some ways I wish the author had stopped there - the "wrap up happy ending" section both felt rushed, and also brought in a chunk of het romance dynamics that I really don't get on with personally, but I'm also glad that they do both get to have that happy-ever-after, so - just a half-star off for that. show less

The romance genre is stuffed with overwrought, badly written dross. Fortunately this isn't one of them! A charming little story, perhaps not the most original but still an engaging premise with endearing characters. Well put together, if a little short (more like a novella.) I would like to see this author tackle a longer form as I think they could pull it off.

3.5 stars.

Love a virgin hero.

Love a traumatic past.

Love body positivity and acceptance.

This had me in the first half I'm not gonna lie. Chris and Violet's meet-cute was pretty cute. Violet's enthusiasm to be Chris's fake date to his father's funeral was appealing.

But once they got there, everything felt rushed. There was really no recompense for the abuse Chris's mother inflicted on him. Seeing him and his uncle meet up to give Chris the ashes would have been nice.

It was mentioned a couple show more of times and seemingly forgotten about.

Violet's confrontation with her cheating ex and her former bestie could have gone better.

This was a sweet instalove, and Chris's inner monologue about having sex for the first time felt authentic.

Thanks, LibraryThing for the review copy.

"We Were Just Pretending" sets up an intriguing premise—a fake relationship between two scarred individuals that gradually turns real. Unfortunately, despite the promise of emotional depth and redemption, the execution left me underwhelmed due to the writing style and the characters’ frustrating tendencies to overthink.
