"You can't fix people. No more than you can fix life. But sometimes, I guess you can give them a little nudge in the right direction. If you think they're worth it, then don't make it easy for them to let go."

Such a beautiful and sad book. It was a completely realistic story in the choices the characters made, the plot, and the portrayals of the different pains that Jesse felt. And, btw, I loved Jesse. Even though he was a sub and had emotional issues and masochistic needs, outside the show more bedroom he was strong and very unlike the stereotypical wilting flower. He made me so proud every time he talked to Matt and was strong. And I liked Matt for what he realized, and how he acted towards the end (clever ploys, Jesse!). And Noah...I mean he told Jesse upfront what he was like, was nice outside the bedroom, wanted Jesse exclusively...but he also was selfish, going beyond Jesse's limits, not allowing him a safeword or listening to his pleas to stop and whatnot. So overall, I loved Jesse, liked Matt, and was on my way to disliking Noah.

The story was very short, but went beyond just the sexual practices, BDSM, and emotional pain; it also dealt with the return of Jesse's mother's illness. The story handled everything with realism, an open feeling, and was quite a (dark) pleasure to read. I do recommend it--persevere and it gets happier.

P.S. Beautiful cover!

Holy hell, but that was intense. Sorry, Mr Anderson, did not finish this.

Not because you can't write, because By God you can. You write like the wind.

Simply because I am made of softer matter than needed for this story. I am simply not strong enough, and the writing is so real, so frighteningly realistic that I ended up wailing, screaming, crying.

Too much for me. But WOW for writing skills. It takes a lot to turn me into a shivering, shaking mess of a frightened little girl.

You did. Kudos. I show more just can't go there.

I kind of love that you pushed me so far over the edge, though, and that's why there are four stars to my DNF book.

(I'm sure someone will come and tell me you aren't allowed to give 4 stars for unfinished books, but I really don't care).

This was very well written. So much so it scared the crap outta me.

So much went on in this story...I can't wait for the next one...I gotta find out what's gonna happen.

There was so much shit in this story, that I was rooting for Hunter for bit, then rooting for Jacob, then it flipped back and forth time and again. Incest is obviously not a subject that bothers me; I just wanted the characters to be happy and for love to prevail.

The reasons that it wasn't a five-star for me--'cause even though it was a little crazy with the the kidnapping and all, and for show more the amount of stuff in this book, it should have probably been longer and less abrupt, I still really was sucked in and sympathetic to the characters' plight--were the lack of editing, the indecisive portions (you finally had what you've always wanted, and now you're gonna push it away when he wants it...umm, I'm not so sure about that), the abrupt changes during and between scenes (I had to reread certain parts several times to understand them, with the fast-paced craziness and bad editing and all), and the fact that a lot was left out, so I feel like I missed out on a lot of introspection, decision-making, and character development that would have made this a story to blow my mind, instead of one that lost some of its potential.

There was so much abuse and confusion in Kayden and Hunter's youth, and even when they were older, that I understand why they are so messed up, why they need each other, and why they feel the way they do. The flashbacks really gave a whole new level to the story, and made me hurt for them.

Love the ending. I just need to see what happens next, bottom line.

If you don't mind the tags that go with this one, I think it's worth the read; I really enjoyed it. Just be ready for child abuse flashbacks, incestual leanings, drug use, and a lot of fast-paced confusion and metaphoric self-flagellation. Note: the sex scenes were fade-to-black mostly, they weren't graphic.

So here's Kol, fucking with my mind again. The Kol Anderson library is like walking down a dark passageway never knowing what's waiting inside each room you pass. Kol loves to test the boundaries of readers' comfort zones. From what I've read, he only writes in either dark or taboo. This story falls under taboo.

Poor Sam just can't seem to catch a break. He feels no love for himself from any direction so he starts using his body as a means to make his way.

everything for you?"

His drug use and prostitution are hard enough crosses for him to carry, but they most likely stem from his confusing childhood. Through all of his "adventures" in this short story, I couldn't decide if I wanted to enjoy the depravity or cry over his self-hate. The scenes flipped from sexy to sad often.
People don't care about broken people the way they care about broken legs.

If you're looking for a sweet romance this is not your book. That being said, I liked it, as I always do like everything he writes. This is one author I definitely plan to continue following.
