The only good thing about this movie is that at least Pocahontas gets a better/happy ending here than her real-life counterpart did. The real-life Matoaka/Amonute/Pocahontas/Rebecca Rolfe died when she was 21 or 22 after leaving America to go to England with her husband.

She was captured and held for ransom when she was about 16 or 17, and during that time, encouraged to convert to Christianity (though I suspect it was less encouraged and more pushed) and was baptized with the name Rebecca. show more She was quickly married off to John Rolfe and had a son nine months later.

She was paraded around in England by her husband as a 'civilized savage' (ew) and died in England before she could return to America and died when she was about 21, give or take a year. Poor kid.

Ok, end of history lesson.

I don't want to be too harsh on the movie itself, since this is a direct to video sequel, but this was pretty meh. It would have been fine having never been made.

Madellaine is such a bland character, and this movie was an obvious cash grab. The story was quite weak. I can't really recommend this, I only watched it because it came up on streaming and I'd never seen it before so i was curious as to how it measured up to the original.
The original Lion King is a pretty hard act to follow but nonetheless this was a fairly fun direct to video sequel that covers some of the events when Simba was missing.
It's the Timon and Pumba movie. If you like Timon and Pumba, you'll like this movie. If not - um, Hakuna Matata. Doug checks out Lion King 1 1/2.
