Reviews
This is a very well researched book and is a rigorous analysis of the Civil War period in Sligo. The author gives a good historical account of the War of Independence and the Civil War periods and the local political setup at the time. Significant figures are highlighted. Chapters five to nine are an innovative type of analysis as they detail the geography of civil war incidents, the social background of participants, the effect of the conflict on daily life in Sligo, law and order in Sligo show more and the effect of the conflict on the Protestant population. It is a well written and argued book which is of a more in depth type than some other similar recent county publications on the Civil War. show less
