About the Author

Carole Penny Marshall was born in the Bronx, New York on October 15, 1943. She attended the University of New Mexico. She moved to California and became an actress. She made her film debut in 1968 in The Savage Seven and had a small part in How Sweet It Is! She had guest roles on several television show more shows before being cast as Jack Klugman's gloomy secretary, Myrna Turner, on The Odd Couple. Her best-known television role was Laverne DeFazio in the series Laverne & Shirley, which ran for seven seasons from 1976 until 1983. She directed her first movie, Jumpin' Jack Flash, in 1986. Her other movies included Awakenings, A League of Their Own, Renaissance Man, The Preacher's Wife, and Riding in Cars with Boys. She became the first woman to direct a feature film that grossed more than $100 million when she made Big in 1988. Her memoir, My Mother Was Nuts, was published in 2012.
