I thought this was a great book for our unit studies on rain forests for my daughter. It wasn't too detailed (though some information was over her head). It has a couple of good diagrams, including one explaining the layers of a rain forest that's better than I've seen in any of the other books we currently have out. It had colorful pictures, but didn't overload with too many to distract my daughter. It gave enough information to give her a feel for what a rain forest is without overloading show more her. Each section was just too pages long, which means you can more easily do this book in smaller chunks than some of the others. Its section on conservation was also one of the more informative and less politically motivated. It has a good glossary, index, and resource page as well.

All in all, my daughter and I enjoyed this book, and it's a good one for teaching a 4 year old about rain forests.
