I am use to working on GM (Chevy, Pontiac, GMC) engines and as far as Ford went in my heyday the big block was the classic Boss engine. I now run a Ford 5.4L SOHC. This book covers some good basics for someone who wishes to build or especially rebuild a Ford Modular engine. The book begins with a short history of the modern Ford engine, the tools needed to perform the project starting and some suggested suppliers for parts and tools. The author rightly starts with disassembly. And takes you show more step by step through the process of rebuilding with some advice that can enhance performance or save you funds.
The main examples of this book, and its focus, is on the 1996 4.6L SOHC Romeo engine from a Mustang GT. Each step in the process is explained and combined with many photographs that are pertinent to the subject being discussed. This is a book you would want out on your workbench along with Fords manual. If you are considering a Ford 4.6L modular rebuild I would definitely read this book first so you can understand the scope and complexity of the project and make an informed decision. The picture, charts and illustrations are clear and useful as is the well written text. An excellent addition to your automotive library. I took a 1/2 star off because the title does reflect the overall subject matter but is focused on only one specific engine build and in general only SOHC engines. show less

‘Ford Big-Block Parts Interchange’ is a book about the big-block Ford engines used in the heyday of muscle cars. The book talks about the differences between the various engines used in the day and describes what the parts are that have been historically available to improve the performance of these engines. The book does not discuss in detail how to attach and match parts but does give the reader enough information to make an intelligent decision as to what parts to focus on. There are show more plenty of pictures to help the reader identify engine versions along with charts that list the various manufactured engine components used over the years.
If you’re thinking about customizing or restoring an old Ford Big Block engine, this book should be your first read as it will give you an idea of where to start. The book would be the only read for an experienced mechanic but the rest of us will need something more detail in the how-too of tear down and rebuild. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.4.6L & 5.4L Ford Engines: How to Rebuild is a very informative book with really good illustrations. The book gives a lot of insight on how to rebuild 4.6L & 5.4L Ford Engines. As a Do-it-yourself person I would recommend this to anyone rebuilding these Ford engines.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. The Ford 351 Cleveland engine - it takes me back to the days of muscle cars with their big block engines, manual transmissions, bucket seats, big tires and laying rubber when the light turns green. I saw plenty of Ford 351 Windsors, Chevy's with the 327 and 396 engines, and Plymouth's with the 383 engine, but seeing a stock 351 Cleveland was far and few between.
Now you can build one from the ground up. George Reid has written a new book for SA Design called Ford 351 Cleveland Engines - How show more to build for Max Performance. The book covers the 351 Cleveland and its variations - the 351M and 400M, and it is packed with a wealth of knowledge.
If you are planing to build a street car or race car with the 351C engine, you need a copy of this book. This book begins with the history of the 351C and building basics. The rest of the book covers the block, rotating assembly, lubrication, cylinder heads, camshaft and valve train, induction, ignition and exhaust. It ends with break-in and tuning and power builds. Each section is covered in great detail and includes specifications, tolerances, and countless tips to help find more power and pitfalls to avoid. It is also full of color pictures which can be a huge help when building an engine. This book is a must have resource for the hobbyist or professional that is planning a 351C build.
