Victoria Marcos is the author of several non-fiction series beginning with "My Favorite". I really enjoy reading them to my grandchildren. This book has some great photos and facts about frogs. It is geared to young children (4 to 8) so they can learn about frogs and it does just that. It is simple with just enough information that it will not overwhelm them. They will hear about where they live, their bodies, what they ear etc. There is some difficult vocabulary in this book that the show more younger listeners will need an explanation for, but primary students learning about animals and the various classification of them (mammals, birds, amphibians etc.) should be okay with it. I think this is a great book and series for a school library. There are many young children who do not want to read fiction and this series would definitely give them something to read as they are developing their skills. I can see this peaking a reader's interest enough that they search and read more. The publisher, Xist Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own. show less
My Favourite Pet: Mice by Victoria Marcos teaches kids about keeping mice as pets. Using simple, concise language, children learn how to house and feed a pet mouse, and how mice enjoy playing. I read this with my younger cubs. There isn't much text, but a plethora of adorable pictures. We might have enjoyed this more if the topic were new, but we've kept rats, which I find a better starter pet than mice. They are bigger, and more intelligent. At the end is a glossary and a series of study show more questions. I think this would be a good book to give kids an overview of mice as pets, and help kids and parents get a feel for these cute critters. Definitely a starting point. If serious about keeping mice, be sure to get some more in-depth information too!

I read this book to my grandchildren and grandnephew. My nephew is a volunteer firefighter, so this book was especially interesting to them. The illlustrations are photographs so that added to the information given in the story. There were very lively discussions as I read this story as they had all seen and sat in a real firetruck. This is a great book to read with children as well as to use in a primary classroom when learning about community helpers, transportation, safety etc. A great show more non-fiction book for all school, public and classroom libraries. Victoria Marcos is the author of many of the "My Favorite" book series for young children and I have not been disappointed yet. Marcos’ charming children's book My Favourite Animal: Dogs takes a peek at man’s best friend in all her glory. Full of colourful, glossy pictures, young readers will be provided a number of doggie facts from the tallest dog breed, to the types of dogs best suited for certain jobs like police work and service animals, to behaviour and communication. Each little section has a quiz question, and there is a glossary for some of the harder or more unusual words for the 4-8 yr old reading show more level. I had no idea Irish Wolfhounds are bigger than Great Danes! See, even adults may learn something new. This would be a perfect addition to any school of public library.
