- Danielle was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. At the insistence of the left side of her brain, she graduated in 2003 from the University of Calgary with a bachelor's degree in finance.
But the right side of her brain has ever been mutinous; and in 2010, it sent her back to school to complete an entirely impractical English literature degree at Mount Royal Univeristy and to pursue publication. Much to her satisfaction, the right side shows no sign of relinquishing its domination. [from Kindle ed. of Stolen Songbird (2014)] - Nationality

Absolutely loved A Fate Inked in Blood! This book had everything—Viking vibes, badass magic, and a heroine you can’t help but root for. The world-building was rich without being overwhelming, and the slow-burn romance? Chef’s kiss. I was fully invested in the tension, the stakes, and every twist along the way.
It gave me all the fantasy feels I crave, and now I’m dying for book two. If you’re into powerful female leads, mythology, and enemies-to-lovers energy, definitely pick this show more one up! show less

THE TRAITOR QUEEN by Danielle L. Jensen picks up months after the shocking ending of THE BRIDGE KINGDOM. While some authors struggle with sequels, THE TRAITOR QUEEN proves that this is not Ms. Jensen’s weakness. In fact, I enjoyed the second novel more than the first book.
For one, there is more nuance to THE TRAITOR QUEEN. It isn’t just the fact that Lara has to prove herself to be something other than a traitor to Aren and his people. It is Aren’s conflicting emotions, something Ms. show more Jensen showcases with skill. It is the hatred and distrust spilling from every person Lara meets. Lara’s guilt, Aren’s anger and self-disgust - all of it feels accurate and very real. These are not two teenagers with overwrought emotional turmoil. These are two people in love who have hurt each other in terrible ways, ways that impact an entire country.
At the same time, even while Lara continues to impress with her martial skills, her wealth of knowledge becomes even more important in this novel. That combined with her determination to atone makes her even more formidable than we knew because it shows how far she has come in reclaiming her ability to empathize that was missing when we first met her.
Once again, Ms. Jensen kept me on the edge of my seat and prevented me from guessing any aspect of the plot. There were times I even doubted whether Aren and Lara would make it as a couple because she was that good at showing the divide between them from Lara’s failure to tell the entire truth. THE TRAITOR QUEEN provides a satisfying conclusion to Lara and Aren’s story while setting readers up for the next part of the Bridge Kingdom’s battle for independence. I’m excited to see what happens next! show less

I really, really enjoyed The Twisted Throne by Danielle L. Jensen. Like… a lot.
There was a lot of action right from the beginning, and it kept weaving its way through the whole story. But what really got me was all the politics and power plays layered underneath. Everyone has an end game. Everyone. And half the time they’re working together while also quietly working against each other, which I loved. It felt messy.
What I appreciated is that not every motive was selfish or shady. Some show more characters genuinely thought they were doing the right thing. Ahnna, for example, was just trying to help Ithicana by uniting Harendell through marriage. Her heart was in the right place. Same with James. No spoilers, but again, not a bad end goal. Good intentions, complicated execution.
And then you have the sneaky ones. The long-game players. The people smiling while absolutely steering things in their own direction, and watching all of that collide was honestly fun and stressful at the same time.
The cliffhanger though. Insane. My brain is still buzzing about it and I need answers. I’m excited to keep going but also kind of sad because the next book is the last one. Saying goodbye to the Bridge Kingdom is going to hurt a little. This series has easily become one of my top favorites I’ve ever read, no question. show less

I do so love stories that play with myths. It doesn't matter if those myths are Greek, Slavic, Asian, or Celtic; as long as they contain some element of fantasy from long ago, I am all in. A FATE INKED IN BLOOD by Danielle L. Jensen is one such novel. With its main character named after a Norse goddess and shield maiden references, there may or may not have been mental squealing while reading it. Freya is everything you want in a Norse demi-goddess - fierce, fiery, formidable, and dangerous. show more The world-building in the story is amazing, and I especially enjoyed the details regarding the raiding lifestyle. My only complaint is that Freya is a little too slow at deciphering clues at times, but it is something I had no problem overlooking due to the steamy connection between Freya and Bjorn. I can't wait to read the rest of the series! show less
