Security Specialists International is a private security agency which takes on government contracts and private jobs no one else wants. The series revolves around the security agency contracts and the personnel employed. Although each book is standalone to a certain extent (as in there is a heroine, hero and a happily ever after to each one) there is an overarching plot through the series focusing on a DOD traitor who has been compromising intel and profiting off of information leaks.
That's show more one of the main things I really love about this series. Even though there's romance and sex and a ton of humour- there's a lot of plot and while each book can be read standalone - reading them in order lets the plot build into something special. Actually it's kind of like Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series insofar as the plot running through each book. I like the whole jigsaw puzzle being put together as each book is released.
The third book in the series follows Vanko and his love interest Elana. I loved this book. The romance happens really quick but it's just so damn adorable. Plus this series doesn't claim to be anything other than what it is. The characters joke and refer to the whole insta love thing often and there's so much humor, action and romance it's very easy to ignore.
I love Vanko and I love Elana. Elana is so fierce and strong and resilient. Like most of Monette Michael's heroines she's a survivor. Vanko is so sweet to her, always trying to take care of her and make sure she doesn't overdo it.
I love how the plot all ties in. The end of Cold Day in Hell refers to the meeting of the traitor and Croaker. Tweeter refers to Tessa falling off the cliff in Storm Front when he speaks to Vanko. It all ties in so neatly and makes this series feel more like one big story rather than individual books.
Great book. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5. show less

The first book in the Security Specialists International follows Ren Maddox, owner of SSI and all round alpha male and Keely Walsh - one of the best heroines I've ever read. Keely Walsh is total badass - she's smart, feisty and can totally take on all the boys. Half the time - she's better than them. This book is utterly hilarious - there are so many great one liners and funny exchanges. Particularly Mrs Molly Walsh's ideas on how to handle overprotective men.
When in doubt about handling men getting on their protective high-horses, her mom told her to answer their questions literally, in great detail and at length. Such responses had a way of distracting the overprotective male.
Michaels, Monette. Eye of the Storm (Security Specialists International Book 1) . Liquid Silver Books. Kindle Edition.
Lol. Although the romance progresses pretty quick, it's easy to overlook and very enjoyable to read. Great first book in a great series. 4.5 stars. show less

What can I say? I love a good hero as a villain in disguise. And Croaker delivered.
The third novella in the series, Hot as Hell follows bad guy Sam Croaker and former Interpol agent and new SSI member, Dawn Wilson. Unlike the previous books, Croaker and Dawn were introduced in the last novel. I mean the romance still happens instantly but they have a least a slight build up.
Dawn was awesome. As bad ass as Keely for sure. And Croaker was a total sweetie. The chemistry between them was off the charts. It was fantastic. I loved the friendship between Dawn and Keely and the way they worked together to take down the bad guys before their men got home. The action is as intense as per usual - this novella wraps up the DOD traitor storyline which was cool. I enjoyed finally knowing the traitor gets his just desserts. I can't wait to see where this series goes next.

I’ve been really into sci-fi romance lately and Prime Obsession by Monette Michaels is a pretty awesome read if you’re interested in this subgenre. It’s based on the fated mates trope, which I don’t always love, but it really worked for me this time around, because Melina and Wulf probably wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for Wulf’s family seeing her “birthmark”, which the Prime know to be a gemate sign. Her optimal biological match, Wulf, has an identical gemat sign on his show more body, and the lovely cover folks at Liquid Silver Books have included this detail on the cover, which is pretty cool. You can’t really see Melina’s unless you look closely because it’s above her right hip bone and in the shadows but Wulf’s is pretty obvious since it’s on his chest.
The best part of this book is definitely Melina and Wulf’s relationship. They’re both such alpha personalities and it’s a lot of fun watching them find the balance between being in charge and sharing leadership. Wulf has a lot more trouble with this since he is ultra alpha, in all his growly glory, but Melina also has trouble sitting back and letting Wulf lead at times. They’re both such great soldiers and leaders and this gives their developing relationship a lot of heat.
There is also a ton of heat between the sheets, so this book definitely isn’t for folks who are looking for a more cerebral romance. Sex is a big part of their relationship and Michaels isn’t shy about writing it, or writing about their uber lusty feelings.
I also loved the plotting in Prime Obsession. The book isn’t just about Melina and Wulf coming together. It’s also about them working to uncover a plot to stop the Prime from joining the Alliance and diluting the “pure” bloodlines. There are a lot of layers to this plot and it takes Melina and Wulf on a journey with a lot of twists and turns, which I really appreciated. And it gives the reader an opportunity to see how they function as a team, developing their battle-mate bond and building trust in each other.
My one criticism of Prime Obsession would be that I had trouble keeping all of Wulf’s family’s names straight in the later part of the novel. When there were just a few names to remember towards the start, and everyone was getting decent page time, it was relatively straightforward but we meet a lot more of Wulf’s family in the second half of Prime Obsession and I was a little overwhelmed.
If you’re looking for a romance with spaceships, aliens, and action, you should definitely check out Prime Obsession. The second book in The Prime Chronicles is also available and I’m going to be purchasing it from an e-retailer just as soon as I finish this post!
