This is the paper edition. Hard cover was published in 1978. Intro to the new edition has a summary of the singing school tradition by Dorothy D. Horn. She categorizes the tunes into Psalm tune of European Origen, Early American Tunes (referred to as “old Melodies or Colonial tunes by other writers), Anthems, fugeing pieces. Lowel Mason compostitions, Thomas Hastings compositions, denominational tunes frequently appearing in denominational hymnals and folk hymns. She traces the routes of show more these tune.This particular song book has had a following in Tennessee that extended into a least the time of the printing of this facsimile edition.Ms. Horn’s introduction provides a description of East Tennessee Harp singing at Headricks Chapel. She notes the sacred harp sings use the original “Sacred Harp” tune book in Georgia. Sings in North Carolina use “The Christian Harmony in North Carolina. Mennonites of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia use the “Harmonia Sacra”.
