found this book boring and vaguely depressing. As an aside, the idea of a 40 woman discussing her sex life explicitly with her 19 yo daughter just didn't do it for me! But also the main lovers didn't work either. The notional that Zach, 10 years younger and physically perfect just falling into total monogamous love with Jade after one date, felt too Mary Sue for me, and not in a good way. I didn't like Jade, the most interesting thing about her was her name. Otherwise she was whiny and show more insecure and bland. Zach was more interesting but there was no rational (or irrational) reason for him to fall so passionately in love with Jade so quickly. That he never even thought about the age difference or the fact that she couldn't have more children didn't make him seem committed, it made him seem like he was too young and not really looking at her truthfully. (and that his job as an escort where he had made love to other clients, seemed squeamish to me too. He wasn't looking at a lot of things in his life truthfully)
So not well written, not well characterized and not very hot... Not a keeper either. show less

Smokin' Hot by Lynn LaFleur is a collection of three short love stories focusing on the same group of volunteer firefighters in a rural Texas town. Overall, I found little character development, superficial emotional connections between the H/h in most of the stories, rushed stories, and the sex scenes were very mechanical and boring. I think if the author had expanded the stories, worked on the feel of the stories, had a better plot, created more lust, longing, even steamier courtship, and show more left some of the sex scenes to the imagination ( vs the sex scenes step by step as they were written) the book would be greatly improved. I also think if the book was reduced to just two expanded stories or one main story with one or two couples finding their path through loves maze it would have been a more enjoyable read for me. I love hot sexy reads, but the sex has to be secondary to a good plot, with characters I can love, hate or believe in, none of which I found in this book.
I received this ARC courtesy of Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for a honest review. Overall a 2.75 red for me. show less

I actually enjoyed this story. Ms LaFleur packed a lot into 116 pages. There was an actual plot, character development, a romance and hot sex.
It may have been helpful to have read The Birthday Gift to get some back story on Jake, Patrick and Amanda. However, their menage story is recapped as Tera is introduced and the idea of a foursome is established. Tera and Amanda are old show more college buddies, Jake and Patrick are cousins and Amanda and Jake are married… and now the four of them are going to celebrate Patrick’s birthday with a bang!
While the big scene in this book is the foursome, the focus really is more about the romance of Tera and Patrick. Tera is recovering from a broken engagement and when she’s invited to a ski resort to spend a weekend with her best friend, she didn’t expect to be attracted to the owner. I actually found their story interesting and it could have been quite satisfying without the sex.
But the sex was there and it was hot. For those of you turned off by f/f action, there is some in this book. But there isn’t any m/m action, which would be quite weird since they are related. That said, Ms LaFleur was quite inventive in all that went on in that penthouse suite. I’ll admit to needing a little cooling down after reading this one.
I enjoyed the book and am curious enough to seek out more by Ms LaFleur and hope that they are just as satisfying. Well done. show less

This Kindle freebie was just all kinds of wrong for me. The set up is this: 21 year old daughter sets up 39 year old mother with an escort for a special gala and specifically asks said escort to ensure that sex is included in the deal. That's WAY too much information for my comfort. There's a lot of mother/daughter interaction that I thought was kind of weird. I don't want to buy lingerie for my mum and I DO NOT want to see her model it. I certainly DON'T BUY HER SEX TOYS (seriously, there show more was a whole box of "goodies" including anal beads and a butt plug!). So, that's the first bit of WTFery for me. Then, as I said, he's an escort. He sleeps with almost all of his clients. Nevertheless, they're condom free by the end of the weekend! I mean, Dude - really?!?. There is plenty of hot sex (which was well written) but I found it difficult to suspend my disbelief to buy into the story. The story graded as high as it did because the sex was pretty hot. Also, Is it just me or is the dude on the cover super-hairy (and not in a good way)? show less
