I am in awe of all of the well developed characters and striking ways to draw one into the story.
"Read to me?"
The ride of this book was very pleasing. When the first book ended like it did, then told me there was a 'companion story' that happened before it and was all but compulsory for understanding the rest of the series...I was not pleased. But I put my big girl panties on and dove in. Begrudgingly at first, and then I was enthralled..... and sleep deprived. (For real tho, who writes a show more 15 hour book that's this intriguing?! The devil, that's who) This book helped flesh out the characters of Jade and Elish and brought more meaning to their brief appearances in the first book.
I was horrified, titillated, awash with pity and empathy (poor Kerres), angered and turned on...sometimes all at the same time! (Looking at you, Ares and Siris)
Weeks after I've read it, I still find myself trying to quote parts of it to friends.
"And to my inner kink, he left the bowtie on..."
I will get them to read it eventually....when I decide I want to show my friends just how fucked up I am...lol. There's a reason I don't have my Goodreads account hooked up to my Facebook page. show less

Wonderful world building! This book was satisfyingly dark and taboo. Casual hard drug use and unappologetic cannibalism?! Whaaa??If you would have led with that, I'd have just kept looking. And I would have missed a wonderful series with fucking amazing characters and deliciously mind-fucking plot twists. I definitely recommend you giving Mister Carter a chance to take you on this wild ride.
The only teensy tiny flaw I noticed is one that I saw echoed in the other reviews..(from the ppl who show more ACTUALLY read and enjoyed the book, as it was written.).....Not enough sexytime! The author clearly has no qualms about getting rough and twisted, yet some of the more promising sex scenes were glossed over. Boo!
Still, what a mind blowing read! Love love love! show less

This is not mainstream reading. More like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Despite all the horror that is happening, this is still great and captivating.
I don't read horror stories. Except this series. And while this story is really disturbing and brutal, it is also fascinating. I can't wait to read the next one!
