Why Preach? is a spiritual must-read, and not just for preachers. Every church-goer would appreciate Fr. Cameron's insights into the nature of preaching. Though I read this primarily through the eyes of a deacon candidate who will be called upon to preach, the book has already profoundly affected the way I view Scripture and homilies. Rather than write a how-to manual for homilists, Cameron, the editor-in-chief of Magnificat magazine, gets to the root of what it means to preach the Word of show more God. Superb in every respect. show less
I've read this before and am reading it again as part of my daily devotional reading during the Year of Faith. It's a beautiful book and Magnificat has done a great job. The size is perfect for me. I keep it on my desk so easily accessible. There are two ribbons, a gold and a white, as place holders. Each day has two photographs, often highlights from paintings. The daily text fits on one page.

I'm new to the faith, having entered in 2010 after a rather lengthy journey, and I have a show more particular fondness for Pope Benedict XVI. The last little resistance to taking the big step to begin RCIA fell when I listened to Pope Bendict's (then Cardinal Ratzinger) homily after the death of Pope John Paul. These daily and prayerful reflections serve as touchstones for me as I seek to grow deeper in my faith.

The book contains an index to the meditations by month, another index of the illustrations, a helpful list of bibliographical information, and a concise introduction to Pope Benedict and his mission. I highly recommend this thoughtful book of meditations for personal use or as a gift.
