David Lorimer

The title is rather airy-fairy and a bit misleading: the book opens with a detailed account of research into near-death experience (as of 1990), which I hadn't known much about, then the greater part of the book is about the history of ethics in philosophy and various religions. Lorimer seems stronger on the latter.

There is much examination of the perennial philosophy, and the parallels and distinctions between different cosmologies and eschatologies, with a strong emphasis on ethics that show more gives it something different to similar coverage elsewhere. The book draws from thinkers as diverse as Bohm, Schweitzer, Fromm, Plato and Radhakrishnan, so if that's your bag it's a rewarding read, though there's a leap of faith required to accept his conclusions. show less
