An interesting essay exploring the fundamental changes made to English churches in the 19th century, notably, the reasons for - and consequences of - the adoption of neo-gothic as the form of architecture required for Christian worship. Whilst the primary arguments relate to the Church of England as the Tractarian movement and the establishment of new traditions of public worship changed what church buildings were expected to do, the consequences have a much wider spread, with a significant show more legacy to the present day. show less
