The exceptional writing team of A.M. Wilson and Alex Grayson leave you shocked with the vilest of evil antagonists and breathless with the extraordinary and unyielding love of their protagonists. Broad Daylight is insanely dark as two estranged lovers find hope and strength in each other after enduring thirty-three days of unthinkable vicious acts.

Reece James is the target of a sick and twisted serial killer and Detective Danica "Dani" Lawrence, his estranged girlfriend of 20 years ago, is show more collateral damage. There are flashbacks to how they met and how they became estranged, but a great deal of the book is about their trigger-laden tortuous captivity and how their unrequited love kept them going. The raw emotions are heartwrenching as both Reece and Dani fight the guilt of being forced to hurt each other. How does one recover from something like that? It takes some time as they fight their demons, but Reece's determination to never let Dani go again creates a HEA.

There were so many twists and turns and I had some very real physical reactions to this book. Placing a love story in the middle of a traumatic kidnapping is difficult at best and Wilson and Grayson have nailed it. A true testament to a great book. I do recommend you read Pitch Dark first because it explains so much about Reece's brother, FBI Agent Niko James, and his wife Aislen who appear in this book.

I highly recommend this romantic edge-of-the-seat suspense thriller with extremely strong and complex characters. I couldn't put this book down!

Thank you to Ms. Wilson and Ms. Grayson for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Quite an odd book, this one, and I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars. Basic premise is that life as we know it is long over and we follow Tom, who lives in a drug-reliant city working for the company as he gets out of the city, off the drugs, and discovers what is left of the 'real' world out there. It was written in a very deliberate tone of voice and this gave it an interesting feel, a very thoughtful book, but overall was quite depressing in the way it showed how many people believe their show more way is the only way to fix the world, and everyone else is the monster. There's a small cast of fairly interesting characters but nobody really reveals themselves fully, so it's quite difficult to warm to anybody. Overall I enjoyed a lot of the ideas, the assorted ways of showing the opiates for the masses and the thought of the time-rewind, but I sometimes felt a little lost. As did our 'hero' of the story, so I guess that's perfectly fine. I liked the book, it made me think, but I don't know anyone I'd actively recommend it to over other books of a similar nature. I personally am glad I've read it, though.

I received this title from Netgalley in return for a review, and my thanks for the opportunity to read it.

I picked up this book because I am scheduled to read the second in the series soon. Boy, what an emotional rollercoaster. There are triggers galore, but there is also a beautiful love story.

Detective Niko James has been searching for his best friend, Aislin Mathers, for fifteen years after she went missing at age thirteen and it all comes crashing down when her mutilated body is discovered in his hometown where his life went to pieces. He promised he would always protect her and he failed. show more His mission now is to find the son-of-a-bitch who caused her so much pain and fear. What he finds is another woman who appears to have been tortured the same way but she doesn't remember who she is, let alone what happened to her.

Niko is a broken man until he meets "Doe", the woman with no memory. His failure to save Aislin is channeled into his need to help Doe feel safe again. She was brutally raped and tortured for years by the look of her scars, and her nightmares are frequent. But Doe is learning to trust Niko with his unfaltering kindness and gentleness. Niko suffered for so long trying to find Aislin. He was the only one who believed she had been kidnapped because she wouldn't run away and leave him despite her heartbreaking family life. Now that he has put her body to rest he makes it his mission to renovate her family home that is next door to his. Aislin's house is where he places Doe for the time being until they find out who she is. Doe's identity is eventually revealed and Niko reluctantly lets her go home, but what happens next will change his life forever.

Supporting characters include Niko's concerned partner, David Tavers, and his lovely wife Mindy who have Niko's back despite Niko's questionable choices. Niko has been apart from his family for some time, but he eventually mends fences with his brother, Reece, with whom he had a falling out, and the family is brought together under difficult circumstances.

Triggers aside, this is a surprising love story with broken individuals, suspense, and a shocking and happy-ever-after ending. I can't wait to read Reece's story in book 2.

Denial by A. M. Wilson

~ Plucked my heartstrings, made me care, fell in love with the characters, couldn’t put it down ~ This is a new to me author I will look for again ~

What I liked:
* Alice Thompson: outgoing, fun, strong sense of humor, resilient, protective, friendly, good friend, responsible, Type 1 Diabetic, arrives in town to be Nanny to Eleanor “Nellie-Jo” Sutton, has a stalker
* Sutton Stone: police officer, single parent, grumpy, reserved, protective, strong, good friend, show more great support network, community-minded, fighting his attraction to Alice
* Eleanor Sutton: eight-years-old, Sutton’s daughter, active, curious, caring, loves Alice
* Meeting the support network that must have been in books I have not read and thinking that I probably missed some great books
* Watching Sutton try to ignore perky Alice and be the rigid employer as he fell under the spell of warm charming, rather wonderful Alice
* The open honest communication throughout the story – between the adults and between adults and children
* That I liked the characters and could see them living and loving together for the rest of their lives
* The information about type 1 diabetes and being inspired to refresh my nursing information on the subject…including what Alice and Sutton might face with her diagnosis in the future
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* Being able to dislike the baddies and being glad that they were eventually found and dealt with
* Having read a new-to-me-author that I will gladly read again.
* Everything except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like: evil doers after Alice and bullying of Eleanor

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
