An accordion publication that accompanied Smith's exhibition "Realms" at the PaceWildenstein Gallery in New York from March 14 - April 27, 2002. This small book is given over to depicting the interaction between a woman and a wolf and it would seem to be an eroticized version of the Little Red Riding Hood story - the poem on the inside cover reinforces this reading as well. Either way there's an uneasy tension that permeates this booklet that left me curious about the final outcome of this show more human and animal interaction. show less
Widely considered to be one of the most engaging and original artists of our time, Kiki Smith has, over the past 20 years, developed into a major figure in the world of 21st-century art. From her earliest work focusing on the forms and functions of the human body, to her interest in traditional crafts to recent meditations on literature, myth, and the natural world, Smith's visual vocabulary is an increasingly elaborate one. The range of materials she has explored in her work--from show more sculptures in bronze, plaster, glass, and porcelain, to printmaking, photography, and film--is as wide-ranging as the subject matter her work has encompassed. Kiki Smith accompanies the artist's first full-scale museum retrospective, organized by the Walker Art Center. The show will travel to other prestigious U.S. venues, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Organized with the full collaboration of the artist, Kiki Smith is an extensive, lavishly illustrated catalogue that includes a four-color plate section; essays by Linda Nochlin, Marina Warner, and exhibition curator Siri Engberg; as well as an interview with the artist by esteemed author Lynne Tillman. Also included is a complete exhibition history and bibliography, as well as the first-ever comprehensive illustrated chronology of Smith's life and work. show less
