If you've found the directions for getting started in other bobbin lace manuals too daunting, give this one a try. In addition to the quick start up, this one also uses colored threads and some of the modern yarns in interesting ways.
Beginner's Guide to Bobbin Lace, Gilian Dye & Adrienne Thunder.
It is a wonderful book and has great instructions, pictures and diagrams. However it only teaches the Torchon style of bobbin lace. The difference is Torchon works on a diagonal grid adding fibers when starting the piece. This can be easily be seen in the bookmark lessons. The projects are great, Spring purse, Summer scarf, Summer bag, Autumn cushion, Winter scarf. The Winter scarf is beautiful and a good example of how bobbin show more lace can be done with any size thread and be beautiful. Great starter book. show less

Slim and rather pricey paperback booklet (currently about $23), giving an overview of a wide variety of techniques, including buttonhole loops, cutwork, reticella, plaited bobbin lace, lacis (net darning), lucet. Some prickings for bobbin lace; clear diagrams. Appears to be a reprint of 1995 Elviston Press edition.
