Cartoonish, old-timey rivals have an auto race around the world.
3/4 (Good).
If you've ever found yourself wishing there was a Waluigi movie: good news! It was made in 1965, and it is as weird as that sounds.

Much better than I remembered. While not quite reaching the heights of the first Steve Martin reboot, it is perhaps more even, with less of an attempt at an actual mystery plot in exchange for more time spent on nonsensical slapstick and hijinks.
Having fond memories of seeing the film back when it was relatively new, I was disappointed that it didn't really hold up, outside of Sellar's understated comedy, which was not quite slapstick, but not very subtle either, except in a couple of cases.
The plot was thin, the dialogue less than sparkling, and Niven simply too old for the Princess he supposedly won over by his charm.
There was really no convincing reason for her to love, or even like, him.
Robert Wagner was okay as the stud.
It was show more curious that his mannerisms and voice are still the same in his NCIS role as Tony Dinozzo's father.
I was getting flashbacks to the TV series watching him.
In common with other classics of the sixties and seventies, the action seems really slow paced, and the editing jerky. show less

Lee Remick plays Kelly Sherwood, a bank teller who is terrorized by a mysterious assailant into stealing £100,000 from the bank where she works or her younger sister will be killed. Glenn Ford is the FBI agent leading the hunt to track down the murderous extortionist. Directed by Blake Edwards who delivers a moody and superior late era noir that is full of deep shadows and strange angles. The black-and-white cinematography by Philip H. Lathrop is first class with the whole film augmented by show more Henry Mancini's downbeat score. Lee Remick is excellent as the bank teller, Glenn Ford is solid as the FBI man and Ross Martin delivers a creepily wheezy turn as the vicious extortionist, Red Lynch. There are a couple of minor flaws in the plot line, but other than that this a good piece of tense, taut noir film-making. show less
