I took this course on a lark (I was really studying biological anthropology and evolution) and was taught by Hoch, using what was a work-in-progress, this textbook. The text is challenging, the course was challenging, and it ranks as one of the toughest yet most enjoyable courses I ever took. If you can get through it, believe me, you will have learned something.
I ended up with this when I was looking for an explanation of "group writing". It provided that, although it's obviously not the main subject of the book.
An interesting, but challenging, textbook. I used this textbook for two courses in MEG and found myself searching for additional material for more examples to work. If you are going to use this textbook, be sure to also get a copy of Hoch's Sign List.
Excellent text book written by a professor for his own use in language classes. I prefer his division of topics over other text books. Has partial answer section to the exercises in the back with a dictionary.
