Think Positive Thoughts Every Day: Words to Inspire a Brighter Outlook on Life - Updated Edition by Patricia Wayant
Meant to be a collection of inspirational quotations with appropriate artwork, this goes beyond just another little book to being a tool for those struggling with life's battles. It is small enough for pocket or purse, to keep it nearby. Open it to any page, and take time to let the beautiful colors of the art come in with the words to give your soul a lift.
Janet Nohavec writes clearly and most likely has developed this book from material she uses to teach classes herself.
Originally written in 1923 as a series of articles by the archaeologist, Howard Carter, whose discovery made him famous. There are many black and white photos taken by Carter's crew, and modern color photos were added in 1972. This is an autobiographical account of the discovery along with Carter's hypotheses of how and why these objects were included in the tomb of a king whose name had been erased from the king list thousands of years earlier.
While small, this book covers more numbers than traditional numerology texts which stop at the master number 33. Written for a practical person, the information is for the reader to use in seeking answers along the journey of his life.
Written by an acknowledged expert in the field of history and archaeology of Egypt, this book is a compilation of biographies of important pharaohs augmented with drawings and photographs of artifacts and monuments which substantiate the claims by the author to the importance of each pharaoh in this collection.
The first of Castaneda's books, sets the stage for all to follow. An anthropologist student takes his studies under a native shaman and learns lessons on life and the aspects of reality that are not included in modern Western thought.
An anthropologist continues his training under a Mexican shaman. While told in the first person as a narrative of the lessons learned, the main focus is on vocabulary building, as the contemporary American culture did not have terms for what he was learning at that time.
I have this in my library because people I work with find it inspiring. I skimmed to the principles and enjoyed the workbook for its ideas to use in workshops.
A handy little pocket sized book for those who are touring Egypt or a museum, Strudwick has many examples of texts shown in pictures from monuments, buildings, and artifacts. He shows you how to spot and translate pharaoh names, typical sayings and phrases with hieroglyphs, a brief translation, and a description of what that means as part of the whole text.

This book is a collection of interviews by Bill Moyers of doctors and experts in alternative healing approaches and techniques. Each article can stand on its own as an introduction to the topic it covers. This book is a companion to a 5 videocassette set of the programs aired on television in 1992.
Written by a Westerner who lives in Taiwan and has studied under several masters. This is a clearly written text with diagrams and charts that cover the Taoist approach to the physical aspects of life: diet, exercise, meditation, and sex. The last being controversial is covered in the same clear style with the object of preserving physical energy for the purpose of living a long and healthy life.
This is a very poetic rendering of what was intended to be a book of spells to help the deceased pass through the afterlife tests to achieve immortality at his final judgement.
This is the small pamphlet sized quick reference to the list of conditions, causes and an appropriate affirmation. In dictionary format, alphabetically by condition, this little gem can be used for doing either mental healing, affirmations, meditations, and forming healing prayers for someone else.
This book showcases the Edgar Cayce readings on other lives for the historical Jesus. Glenn Sanderfur got curious about what the readings said and how they all interconnected with his own traditional Christian opinion of Jesus. He finds that the other lifetimes come from many other traditions, i.e. Atlantean and Zoroastrian, yet they all convey the same message of love from God toward his children.
Journeys Out of the Body: The Classic Work on Out-of-Body Experience (Journeys Trilogy) by Robert A. Monroe
Robert Monroe, founder of the Monroe Institute, is an educated man who used his research skills to investigate his own natural talent for going out of body (OBE) and writing down the results of every encounter. He also taught others to do this same process. The end of the book includes a report by a psychologist from the VA who examined Mr. Monroe and found him to both be sane and "normal" yet able to test the process for making OBE trips and getting spiritual and useful information from them.
A gem of a classic, 16 lectures by Rudolph Steiner on the subject of after death experiences and the need for the living to connect with these departed souls to assist them in their spiritual growth, just as they can help us in return. Many of his ideas are being touted in the 21st Century as new ideas. Newness is not the sign of something important, but of ignorance of the work of those who came before us. His vocabulary is beyond the limits of many modern day writers, but well worth exploring for the serious seeker in spiritual topics.
The Spiritual Power of Empathy: Develop Your Intuitive Gifts for Compassionate Connection by Cyndi Dale
Empath is the new word for "Psychic". This book covers the new terminology being used to define the age old gifts of Spirit that are outside the domain of psychology and psychiatry. These gifts are present in most everyone, and the author tells how to discern your own gifts and to develop them. There is a lot of negativity in chapters where the reader is supposed to root out their own problems in order for the gifts to take precedence.
A compendium of the top metaphysical and spiritual authors in 1987 writing on topics that were pioneers in this field. Each article is written by a well known authority, so this is a way to get a look at what was available in the 1980s. Even though there have been many changes since then, these authors were creating something that did not exist prior to their work in this form and along with that, they created a vocabulary still in use today by crystal practitioners of all kinds. If you want to see how it all got started, this is a good book for history alone.
The Ultimate Guide to Crystal Grids: Transform Your Life Using the Power of Crystals and Layouts by Judy Hall
Judy Hall is a prolific writer about the metaphysical properties of crystals. This book specializes in using crystals in healing patterns or layouts called grids. Not only are there diagrams, there are also full color photographs for information. This book is very thorough and has an in-depth chapter on sacred geometry and the use of the color of crystals in addition to the patterns of the layouts.
Crystal Grids Power: Harness The Power of Crystals and Sacred Geometry for Manifesting Abundance, Healing and Protection by Ethan Lazzerini
For both beginner and advanced crystal healer, this book contains research, history, and lots of diagrams. In a way, it is like a cookbook. You can choose an objective and look through the diagrams and accompanying instructions to make your own grid.
A 1998 update from William Rand on the state of Reiki, both teaching and practice. Still omitting the symbols, Rand covers practice and teaching methods. Discussion is made of confusion between official or authentic Reiki teachings, and additions by current practitioners. This is a research piece, rather than a teaching manual.
William Rand has done extensive research, traveling to Japan, to find the true origins of both Reiki teaching and Reiki practice. This manual covers the first and second degree without including the symbols that are given at level II. Extensive treatment hand positions based on Hayashi's work are included. An excellent reference for any collection of spiritual or metaphysical healing techniques.
Written in French, this book is a compilation of the writings documenting the "resurgence" of the Templar order in modern times. Most of the writing has been divinely inspired and the overall outlook is quite philosophical. Rather than being about finding lost treasure hidden from the king who terminated the original order, this book shows the inspiration of all knights (chevaliers) to guide and protect pilgrims on their spiritual path. Today there are no crusades, so the work of today's knight involves prayer and meditation.
Parenting Kids With OCD: A Guide to Understanding and Supporting Your Child With OCD by Bonnie Zucker
I received a copy of this book as an early reviewer. I asked for it because I am a grandmother of a child recently diagnosed with OCD. For those who are new to psychology or science in general, this is an excellent book. The author has counseled grade school through teen age children and their parents, thus her descriptions are clear and in language anyone can understand. The most important points I learned from this book are:
1 OCD is only a label, and it is something that can be overcome with support and therapy
2 Parents and siblings are as important to the patient as the therapist
3 Accommodations (giving in to the OCD behaviors) make it worse, not better
4 E/RP (exposure response prevention) is a planned series of exposing the patient to an anxiety trigger so that the child will learn to assess the situation rationally, realize OCD is taking away choices, and overcome the temptation to slip into little rituals designed to avoid anxiety
5 Meditation (learning to calm the mind and body) strengthens the patient against OCD
6 Affirmations (statements the patient writes and memorizes) give the patient a rational choice
7 The author's ladder technique (she makes a series of exposure test situations) allows the patient and family to see the progress toward good mental and emotional health
Having spent many years in a 12 Step program to overcome an addiction, I recognize many of the same principles. Practical steps with encouragement from parents, friends, siblings, teachers and show more other respected figures is an essential part of overcoming any anxiety-based driven behavior. Not everyone overcomes an addiction, but most learn at least how to cope. This book offers the parents of an OCD diagnosed child similar tools which will at least help give the child tools for life to overcome OCD, if not cure it entirely. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This is the third Crystal Bible. It has more stones not listed in either of the first two books. The interesting part is there is a detailed section on Quartz, the different colors and configurations when it is mixed with other stones as a matrix. As always, there are accompanying photos, physical descriptions, and a list of healing properties.
A companion to the first volume, the Crystal Bible 2 carries on with more stones, photos, descriptions of the physical appearance of the stone and where they are mined, followed by healing properties.
Although the descriptions are brief, each stone is illustrated with at least one color photograph. Physical descriptions include the geographic areas where the stone is mined. Advice is also given of the stone's healing properties and where to place a stone during healing sessions.
