Ridley, who was club president of Melbourne at the time of the proposed merger with Hawthorn, tells his side of the controversy. Surprisingly, not much insight is offered into how Melbourne got into financial difficulties, even though Ridley's long playing, coaching and administrative career makes him ideally qualified to comment on the matter. Nevertheless, the book is a useful account of club politics during the merger proposal.

Review by Lionel Frost.
An OK book but very, very repetitive. Ian Ridley writes on chapter then Steve writes the same chapter. So Ian will tell you about Steve's time at Weymouth then Steve tells you about his time at Weymouth. Ian will tell you about Steve's time at Cambridge then Steve tells you about his time at Cambridge. And this happens with every chapter. Also not much about Steve it touches on his gambling, home life but nowhere near enough.
All the more interesting for being true - if you win the lottery and aare thinking about buying your local non-league team, read this first
