This is a unique and great Childrens books. It was creatively crafted incorporating elements of regenerative farming, sustainable living, farm to table and where our food comes from. The illustrations were fun and whimsical. The story followed a brother and sister and their mom as they did chores around their farm while also gathering things to make dinner. I think this book has something for everyone but is probably better suited for younger kids. My older kids sat in and listened but they show more enjoy farm life, sustainability stories. Overall, a really great read. show less

A truly lovely book which shows in a simple way how sustainable farming works for a family while the dad is out in the fields doing the heavy labor.
Silvopasture (silva is forest in Latin) is the practice of integrating trees, forage, and the grazing of domesticated animals in a mutually beneficial way. (Sneaky way to advance vocabulary)
The illustrations by Amanda Morrow are simple yet detailed, colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great show more for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Gnome Road Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you!

The illustrations by the talented Amanda Morrow are charming. The text wasn’t quite so charming. I feel that some of the concepts presented were not adequately explained, and many of the vocabulary words were not defined. Will children learn that bacon comes from pigs? Not here. Will they learn that venison and deer are the same? Not here. Will they be familiar with the dinnertime term “shepherd’s pie”? Maybe, maybe not. As beautiful as this book is to look at, I can’t give it a show more hearty recommendation. show less

This great little picture book connects the dots for kids about where our food comes from and the work that farmers need to do to bring food to our tables. Some portions are a little choppy with awkward transitions, but the pictures are cute, and it’s a simple story that helps kids understand farming a tiny bit more.

I received a free digital copy of this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program in exchange for my honest review.
