The Navigators

I would not recommend this book unless you're doing it as part of a fairly large group (at least 8 or so people) of varying conservative/progressive points of view that are open to discussion. The book poses some good questions, but at times takes a distinctive lean. If you don't have folks in your group that have a different view, you might take things carte blanche and that just isn't very interesting. The book also reads as a little 'dated', but then, it really is...

While it asked some good questions about the chapters of Isaiah, I found a lot of them to be redundant and after a while I didn't feel like I was learning anything new about Isaiah. I guess I expected something different.

Is God really sovereign? Can individual people make a difference in His world? A young girl named Ruth and a middle-ages man named Boaz answer yes to both questions in the violent days of Israel's judges - and the couple goes on to play a crucial part in god's plan. Over 600 years later, a Jew named Mordecai and his cousin Esther save their nation by also saying yes. Today these stories still inspire believers to affect the world by trusting God.
