Re-read November 26, 2013: With news that a sequel is coming out in December, I was in the mood for a re-read. This gem was just as hot the second time around! Can't wait for Sorting Out!
This super, duper, fuck yeah 5 stars book deserves the Blanche Devereaux spray-bottle .gif! I fucking loved this book! Talk about hitting all my buttons... OK, we've got 2 cops, Gray and Jack, both gorgeous and in love with each other. They like to play. IN UNIFORM. *gulp* Holy shit, I love that. They are show more open minded and have their eyes on a cute bartender, Mason, and decide to ask him to be their third. Mason is not only a bartender but an adorable nerd who loves chemistry and Scfi. His idea of a fun night out is a Stargate SG1 marathon in. Hello! Button pushed! He is also deeply submissive and really sets off Gray's big-bad Dom side. OMG, I seriously could go on and on and give away the entire story, but I wanted to bullet point that My. Buttons. Were. All. Pushed! Oh, and there is a sub plot with a string of robberies so there is ANGST! and CONCERN! and the boys were worried about one another. Jeez... More emotion! And, honestly, I absolutely canNOT do threesome's without emotion. The characters don't have to be falling all over each other in love necessarily, but it can't be mindless sex. There has to be a connection. And, baby, there is a CONNECTION here!
If you love threesome's with emotion and connection, fabulous BDSM power exchanges between consenting adult males, hot cops with handcuffs in uniform performing sexual acts, an unconventional love story that is incredibility satisfying all in a 177 page book, I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND [b:Fitting In|17382327|Fitting In|Silvia Violet|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1361161675s/17382327.jpg|24176656]. “Intense” is the one word I would use to describe this book. Emotionally and mentally, the two main characters, how they relate to each other, and what they have been through even before this story starts boggled my mind. As for what happens in this book: it starts on a high of tension and doesn’t let up. Not for a single second. This is one of those books where I have to take a deep breath at the end because I feel as if I’ve forgotten to breathe as I was reading.
Lark starts off as show more the man with the upper hand. He plays the role of a bastard prison master / illegal arms dealer so well, he had me doubting him several times. The history he shares with Derek is obvious, but Lark’s memories and thoughts are clouded with so much guilt and self-doubt that it took some time for me to figure out what he really wanted.
Derek has clearly suffered a lot, and now he finds himself at the mercy of the man who caused all his misery. Or does he? It was fascinating to watch how Derek went from abused prisoner to ex-partner to an agent who had been dealt a horrible fate. Derek’s thoughts changed with each of the roles he remembers or plays, and that was confusing, but made the story more interesting at the same time.
At first I wasn’t sure who was the more double-timing bastard of the two. Every time the point of view shifted, so did my opinion. Silvia Violet did a really good job of presenting each man’s case so convincingly, that it took me half the book to start figuring out what was really going on. Perfect cloak and dagger – involving me totally and making me feel as if I was right in the middle of the mess these two had maneuvered themselves into. Be warned, though, this book is not for the faint-hearted; scenes of torture are brief, but graphic and allusions to more atrocities are plentiful. If you like thrillers, double agents and their stories of betrayal, and if you want an intense, extremely hot and highly emotional read, try this book. I bet it’ll take your breath away just as it did mine. show less
