The world is so coy of displaying sexual acts and organs that a book like this one, ars sexualis in clay if you will, comes as a really nice surprise. Its full of humour and sometimes deliberate vulgarity and always wonderful craftsmanship often informed by the artistic vision. This book is a wonderful book for starting conversations, so leave it on your coffee table. It would also make the ideal present for any of your over-serious, analytical artist friends who will be surprised to see the show more works of some of their favourite sculptors that are never, ever put out on display. show less
Catalogue for a solo exhibition held at Richmond Art Gallery, May 2 - June 1, 2006.
'The evolution of Paul Mathieu's ceramic practice is articulated over the history of its production. He does not simply make ceramic pieces, functional or otherwise, rather the fabrication is a part of his observation and interrogation of the place of ceramics and of ideas in the world and in art.'
(Abstract from foreword by Corrine Corry, Director/Curator of the Richmond Art Gallery)
