This is largely a personal memoir by someone who survived the British bombing of his small city in Germany near the end of World War II when he was a youngster. This experience caused him after the war to research how this town wound up on the RAF's bombing list when it was not militarily valuable and the Third Reich was about to collapse anyway. He does not justify or condemn either German aggression or Allied bombing. The analysis is pedestrian, but the personal memoir part is stronger.
