Gorgeous. I'm glad to read another review that says it's good in digital, though, as it's a very heavy, glossy, not Earth-friendly book. I learned a lot about birds from the essays, but I don't know how much I'll retain. I am glad to learn that these birds were ones that were getting banded anyway, and were treated with great care as they were very quickly photographed.
Through wonderful photography and entertaining text, Close to Birds shares the irresistible marvel and joy of birds. The authors looks with curiosity at why people are moved by the most commonplace bird encounters, from the beauty, the song and flight. Come for the close up photography, but read about dozens of everyday birds.
"[The Wonderful Adventures of Nils]" ([Nils Holgerssons underbara resa]) by [Selma Lagerlöf] was published in 1906 as a combined school geography textbook and adventure novel. The boy Nils is shrunk and travels all over Sweden on the back of a goose. This coffee table book (The Wonderful Adventure) celebrates the 100th anniversary by presenting Roine Magnusson's breathtaking aerial photography from the goose back's perspective alongside text by Anders Wallén.
