Sally Moomaw

This is one of the finest books I've ever read on the subject of teaching STEM to littles. Dr. Moomaw has laid out each two-page lesson carefully (typically Materials Needed, Activity Description, Science Content, Mathematics Content, Technology Content, and Comments and Questions to Support Inquiry), and includes clear B&W photos.

But it is her IDEAS for these activities that are inspiring. She delves into all sorts of fascinating subjects, all on a child's level -- simple machines, botany, show more gardening, building (with blocks and with natural materials), bubbles, movement, gyroscopes, cooking, colors, light, and much much more -- and all presented with a deep respect for a child's ability to observe, make inferences, and explore.

The book is a gem for Early Childhood Educators, as well as brave and innovative public librarians. show less
