Jess Smith

This is both a memoir of the author's childhood and a collection of travellers' folktales as she heard them and recounts them to us. My friend, who sent this book from Edinburgh when we were all feeling low and in need of some cheering-up, said she had seen Jess Smith performing as a story-teller. The book is written so much in Jess's storytelling voice that I sometimes felt I was sitting before the fire listening to her speak.
