'Going Home’, in Archie Weller, Going Home: Stories, Allen and Unwin: Sydney, 1986, pp. 1-11. by Archie Weller
A sad and powerful story about a brilliant young Aboriginal footballer and talented artist who returns to his community after spending several years living in a white community in the city.
A Fremantle wharfie obsessed with football brings up his son to follow and play the game as passionately as he does. The son who is named in honour of famous player and coach Kevin Sheedy, becomes an accomplished player, but not in the way his father expects. Story appears to occur from around 1969 to 1987. Previously published in Ross Fitzgerald and Ken Spillman (eds), The Greatest Game, 1988.
