This ABC News segment is part of a series about race in America focused on dynamics between African Americans and Caucasians. The segment uses and incident in which an African American woman was killed in Buffalo, New York, while crossing a six lane highway to reach a suburban mall to talk about issues of segregation, discriminatory routing of buses, and perceptions of racism in White and Black communities.
Two men who share the same backgrounds, with the only apparent difference of being that one was white and one was black, agree to take part in an investigation with Prime Time Live. Both men attempt to purchase a car, find a job and go shopping in a mall. When they talked about their experience, both discover that people had reacted to them based on a stereotype associated with their skin color.
Remember when you could send in for a transcript of a television show? I did that in the midst of my Monty Python mania in the '80s and received this transcript of the Hugh Downs-hosted "20/20" program which aired on April 7, 1983 (show #313), with segments on "Basement Time Bombs" (Geraldo Rivera), "Ann Landers" (Barbara Walters), and "Monty Python" (Tom Hoving). The Python segment featured all the Pythons and was part of publicity for their "Meaning of Life" film. (Four 8.5x11-inch sheets, show more folded and stapled. Wafer thin.) show less
