As much as I loved the 2nd edition, this third edition is just an absolute eye-popper. It has more patterns represented. The company timeline, the color timeline, the pattern thumbnail guide, the color swatches, are all excellent help in identifying glass. It's well formated, easily readable, and has good close-up drawings of the patterns. I especially find it useful to know which patterns and forms are being reproduced. I like the book so well that I have 2 copies. One for home next to my show more computer and one I carry in the car. show less
A very brief field guide to depression glass that is small enough to fit in a pocket for taking to flea markets, estate sales, and auctions. Has a time line, a section on shape recognition, and drawings or photos of patterns. Each manufacturer has prices listed (are old as of this writing - bust still useful for recognition of pieces.)
Based on 1999 ed. (3rd): Intro has brief history, care & storing tips. Not many illustrations, mostly listings. Organization oflistings:include history, references, periodicals, collectors clubs, museums, reproductions, marks, price notes.
Of special interest to me: baskets, buttons, cut glass (American), Fostoria glass, Heisey, pattern glass.
