The book is based on the film's screenplay, but came out before the film. We get a bit more of Nesta and Aldi's back story, and the book gives Aldi rather more space than the film does, making him more sympathetic. The internal dialogue makes the emotional core of his story, the video and his farewell to Nesta on the steps outside the house, even more poignant. Nesta comes off a bit better as well, showing more genuine signs of remorse about the effect of his and Key's relationship on Aldi.
