The opening chapters are hilarious and make full and innovative use of the graphic novel format. I've read a lot of Scooby gang books in the past few weeks, and this is the first group of kids that seem real and interesting. The ending veers away from satisfying but is earned and makes sense.
2018 Winter-to-Spring:

I was counting this down from the over a year before it was being published. Jean Grey has been my favorite character since I was 5 or 6. I have followed her storyline forever, mourned her deaths, and relished her being somewhere in The White Hot Room, even as Marvel made a merciless mess of everything to do with the Phoenix by giving it to a half a dozen characters and letting them go crazy with it.

I was so pleased to see Jean back in the books, again. I adore her so show more much. My longest favorite character of any. I loved seeing how she was handling her day-to-day life, and how her world translated her subconscious, history, and feelings as the X-Men and the Phoenix tracked her down. I did not love the ending ... and that's disappointing. The choices they made about her powers, but someone will change that within 4-5 years anyway probably, so I've let it slip away, too.

But it's only the joy of having this character back that saved the ending making this rating a 3 star only.

Holy. Shit. This is how you do a return justice. Jean stayed dead (this time) for 13 freaking years, and yet, Rosenberg and team managed to bring her back in a way that didn't feel forced or repetitive.

Instead, we got a story that was part mystery, part horror, part redemption, and part reckoning, renewal and resolution.

Jean is back. And I can't wait to see what she does next.
⭐ Sci-Fi | Suspense | Mature Themes

Thank you to Image Comics for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us follows Annalise, an outspoken teen who plays hide-and-seek with her father’s robots. Her father, a scientist striving to create a better world for her, is entangled in dark secrets and dangerous situations, with people hunting him down and mysteries Annalise doesn’t fully understand.

This comic blends sci-fi, suspense, and emotional show more storytelling. Annalise’s vibrant personality adds energy, while the tension surrounding her father’s experiments provides depth and danger. The story leans into mature territory, featuring violence, drug use, and sexual content, making it best suited for adult readers.

While the central father-daughter plot is compelling, some secondary characters and side scenes felt unnecessary or could have been shorter, which impacted the pacing and is why I rated it lower.
