It appears to be a good, solid reference work for the basic genealogy community. I only skimmed most of the book because I own several other volumes that cover much the same territory. One comment that I would add is that things are changing so fast on the tech side of genealogy that those portions of the book seem to be a bit dated. This is as it would have to be, I guess, since the digital age had barely gotten its act together when the book was written..
Very illuminating for the beginning genealogist. I have been enjoying it very much.
