Thunderbird Gold (Light Line) by Nat Reed
The back page blurb sounds great, but when I read it out loud to my middle school students, the writing flaws showed up. The dialog was awkward, and for some reason the students didn't enjoy the plot, even by the middle of the book. I finally stopped reading it to them, and found another book.
