An interesting collection of recent hymns (NOT praise songs of the contemporary variety). Words only; music not included, tunes not suggested. Those worshipers who value traditional Christian hymns will find these newer hymns entirely appropriate for current worship experiences. Some of these recently-written hymns are poetry of significant quality and are also highly effective for personal worship and meditation even if only read instead of being sung. Also appropriate and effective as show more recitation in sermons and other group worship. show less
Wren's analysis of the power of song in chapter 2 drawn from Robert Jourdain’s Music, the Brain, and Ecstasy is masterfully done.
A book of tremendous value to liturgists, theologians, members of the newly forming men's liberation movement, clergy and policymakers, and anyone interested in the issue of inclusive God language, including those who are curious about why it matters in the first place.
