About the Author
Louis Rey is a Scientific Advisor based in Lausanne, Switzerland. He has been a Regent's Lecturer and Visiting Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. The author, coauthor, or editor of 16 books and 130 papers and notes in eight languages, show more Louis Rey has presented 250 lectures worldwide. He has worked as a research scientist at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris, France, as a professor of physical-chemical biology at the University of Dijon, France, and as Head of Corporate Research and Development for Nestl, Vevey, Switzerland. Today, Dr. Rey runs the Lyophilization Laboratory of Aerial in Illkirch, France, and is their Scientific Advisor. He is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Savoy, and has managed the International Courses on Lyophilization. Dr. Rey received his M.A. (1952) and Ph.D. (1958) degrees from the Sorbonne, Paris, France. Joan C. May has been the Director of the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Rockville, Maryland. The author or coauthor of many articles and the coeditor of several books on freeze-drying processes, she is a member of the American Chemical Society and the North American Thermal Analysis Society. Dr. May received her B.S. degree (1965) from Nazareth College, Rochester, New York, her M.S. degree (1968) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her Ph.D. degree (1971) in analytical chemistry from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana. Postdoctoral appointments included research at New York State's Roswell Park Memorial Institute (1972) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (1973) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. show less
