This is the story of Onnie Lee Logan who was the 14th of 16 children born on a farm in rural Alabama around 1910. She was called to be a midwife like her mother and grandmother (who was a slave) before her. She worked for over 50 years for both Black and White families, for those who had nothing and those who could afford to go to the hospital but instead chose her services. Her strong faith in God gave her an eternal source of optimism in spite of hard times. The story is told in her own show more words. She recounts some incredible experiences and tells what she learned during her professional career. Onnie's faith in God and her life experience gave her what she calls her Motherwit, This is an amazing and inspiring book. I only wish it was longer. show less
