"Marie Curie" is a biography about the Polish chemist Marie Curie. Marie loved math and science as a child and grew up to be a magnificent chemist. Later in her life she married Pierre Curie who was also a quite famous chemist. Marie and Pierre studied x-rays and also discovered two of the elements. In 1903 the couple won the Nobel Prize for physics. This was an astonishing achievement because she was the first female to win the award. Soon later Pierre died, but Marie continued her studies. show more Marie won another Nobel Prize in chemistry, she was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes. Marie, not yet knowing that x-rays were dangerous, continued her work. She soon fell ill and died due to exposure, on July 4, 1934.

This was a pretty good biography. Though the book was quite short, it was full of amazing information. I think that Marie Curie was an amazingly strong and powerful female. Due to her work, people all around now know about x-rays. Many hospitals use x-rays to what is wrong in the patients body. Without her work we most likely would not have the sort of technology that we have today.

This was a very short story about Rosa Parks. I did not like how short the story was because it was just stating facts after facts. I did not really get to know Parks in this book. I would say it would be a kindergarten book because of how short it is. But after my first time reading a biography book to kindergartners, I would say this book is for a higher grade level because of the vocabulary. I really like how the vocabulary words are highlighted and bolded in the story. This book can be show more great for a social studies lesson where a teacher might use some of the words that are included in the book. show less
Part of the Zoom in on Stars of Music series from ABDO books that introduces young readers to some of the biggest names in the music industry.

This entry provides the briefest of information about Beyoncé, including her early life, her rise to fame with Destiny’s Child, her solo career both in music and film, and the 2016 release of Lemonade – minus any of the controversy. The book focuses primarily on her career with little information on her personal life, besides being married to show more Jay-Z. The information that the book does provide is scant - the 2013 surprise release of her 5th solo album is noted, but the name of the album (ironically ‘Beyoncé’) is never mentioned. The book relies heavily on color photos of the star to maintain interest. Recommended: While slight on facts and heavy on photos, this is sure to appeal to fans of singer, and it provides popular biographies to an age range that is usually under-served by publishers. show less
Short, simple book with a few facts about Dr. Seuss. Not overly informative, but could be a good introduction if doing an author study about Dr. Seuss with very young students.
