This was actually more of a 4 star read for the first 80%. I enjoyed the action and the relationship building. It was taken fairly slowly and carefully, but had plenty of interesting bits and pieces that kept me reading and only a couple of editing errors. Then...
The ending. It was as if the author just wanted to get that book finished and wrote a heap of blither; the editor came along and said "that doesn't make sense, lets just pull out these paragraphs to try to keep the momentum rather show more than have the author rewrite the ending when her brain is focused"; and we are left reading a story with huge gaps and holes in the action, a heap of spelling and editing errors, and whole segments of the storyline are ignored!! What the??
I'd like to know what's happening next, but I don't want to read another book with holes, missing actions and another ending that forces the reader to get the next book. show less

36 of 75 for 2015. This is a book desperately seeking an editor. It speaks volumes about the writer's story telling that I really want to read more of her work. But my God, please find a good editor, or at least a proof-reader. I lost track of the number of times my head jerked back at a misspelled word, or just the wrong word (herd for heard, e.g.). Pronominal reference seems to be a chapter that the writer skipped because I found myself rereading paragraph after paragraph just to figure show more out who was the subject of the thought being expressed. All that said, both the mystery and the romance are well thought out, if not well written. And I do want to know more of the story of Pat and Ethan--especially since I know, even if Ethan hasn't figured it out, that wolves, even werewolves, mate for life. show less
Fun, quick read. A fair bit of "poor me" - but decent enough. Won't reread.
Very good shifter murder detective story. Looking forward to the next book in the fall.
