Excellent source of destinations for planning desert adventures. Not as detailed with the maps and route-finding as I would like, but combined with a USGS topo, works fine. Like his reverance for Walt Wheelock and Wheelock's previous desert guides. Most people driving from L.A. to Vegas or L.A. to Reno do not realize how sublime those stark, barren peaks they see in the distance, on the hazy horizon off the I-15, I-40, or U.S. Hwy. 395, can truly be, once you're standing on their summits show more after several hours of huffing and puffing across mostly trailless terrain. This book captures the beauty and solitude awaiting the intrepid traveler who risks the miles of rutted roads and isolation just for the chance to stand atop an obscure peak most people would just as soon not even glance at. show less
